What gives you value?

Is it what you contribute? Your relationships? Your accomplishments, title, or status?

At a recent Journey of a Life-Giver training in Guayaquil, Ecuador, that question became deeply personal for one woman.

LIFE International’s Luke and Tassa were facilitating the training. As Luke taught on the sanctity of human life, he drew on Psalm 139, highlighting the psalmist’s shift from praising God’s works to recognizing his own value as someone created by God.

Looking around the room, he asked: “Do you praise the Lord for the way He has made you? Do you find yourself valuable simply because of who made you and how He made you? Not because of what you have accomplished, how much money you have, or what family you belong to?”

The room fell silent as the participants considered his question.

After the session, a woman approached Luke, visibly emotional. With tears in her eyes, she said:

“I heard the Lord speak to me through you. He said that I am valuable even though I felt so devalued. Sometimes I am a mom, sometimes I am a daughter, sometimes I am a wife, but I am not myself. I’m somebody’s daughter, somebody’s wife, somebody’s mother, but I am never myself. Now I know that I have value.”

Now I know that I have value.

For this woman, the teaching moved beyond a general belief in the worth of human life. She realized that this truth included her. It reshaped the way she saw her own worth and gave her a deeper sense of identity, dignity, and wholeness.

This encounter captures why declaring truth is central to LIFE International’s work. Through Journey of a Life-Giver, we equip leaders to understand and teach the biblical foundation for the value of every human life and carry that truth into their churches and communities.
